“At our Congregational Meeting on Sunday 14th June 2026 we heard a review of the year that has passed, including the encouraging news that financial giving has been sustained through the last twelve months, which helps to give us the foundations for moving forward. Our leaders also shared our growth plan for the next five years, with gentle ways for us all to be part of the ministry that cares for one another, welcomes new folks, and sends us out to the world in love. In addition, we shared vision for refreshing the sanctuary with a new paint scheme and carpeting, and new doors and ramps at the front of the building to allow for a warmer welcome for all.

“I thanked the congregation (and indeed, the community of Dromore) for the kind and prayerful support received by me and my family over the preceding six months since Timothy’s death, a loss which has been keenly felt by everyone. As we continue to unwind from the stress and trauma of the last ten years of illness, it seems timely that my next sabbatical has come due. Following a family holiday, I will be ‘out of office’ for three months through to the middle of October. Kathryn and the boys will join me in taking time to Stop, Rest, Delight and Contemplate – the principles for both sabbath (one day every week) and sabbaticals (for a period every seven years).

“So we won’t be serving with Dromore Methodist Church for a little while, but look forward with anticipation to rejoining the congregation in due course with fresh heart and renewed vision. Meanwhile, I am so pleased that June Parke and Hugh McAllister have committed to spend three or more Sundays each with the Society, along with other great preachers from the Lagan Valley & South Down Circuit. A new tech support team is now in place to ensure the livestream can go ahead without leaning so heavily on just one or two volunteers, and we’re actively searching for musicians to help lead the singing in my family’s absence.

“On Sunday 21st June we were all really encouraged by the lead from our children and young people, who each prepared their own personal descriptions of how Jesus is their friend – and challenged everyone present to also know Jesus as their friend too. Most of the congregation stayed afterwards for a church family barbecue, serving and chatting with one another, building those bonds of friendship further. I pray that you will continue to grow in your friendship with God and one another in these coming months, and look forward to seeing you soon.”
